Pumpkin Picking near London

One of the top things to do in London with kids during October is picking pumpkins at the pumpkin patch for carving, decorating and baking. There are several pumpkin patches near London in Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Hertfordshire which I have listed and will keep updating for Halloween 2024 in the Pumpkin Patches Near London post.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter – Dark Arts

13 September – 10 November 2024

The Making of Harry Potter studio tour is an amazing experience going behind the scenes of the work that went into filming the Harry Potter movies. In celebration for Halloween, there will be 100 floating pumpkins in the magnificent Great Hall and tables laden with sweets, cakes and pies, as seen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The WB Studio Tours London are also featuring the Dark Arts this autumn. Keep an eye out for the Dark Mark projected in various parts of the tour and learn the moves behind a wand combat scene, just like the Battle of Hogwarts, in a live duel with Death Eaters.

Hobbledown Heath – Hobble’ween

12 – 13, 19 – 20, 26 October – 3 November 2024

Hobbledown Adventure Park are running a special Hobble’ween line up at both their Hobbledown Heath and Epsom locations on October weekends and during the October half term break.

Enjoy Halloween-themed activities, a fancy dress monster ball, costume parade and more. Any tickets purchased for the dates above include all Hobble’ween celebrations, free of cost.

Kew Gardens – Halloween at Kew

18 October – 3 November 2024

Join family and friends to wander from dusk into darkness between one ghostly space to another in a brand-new, after-dark Halloween trail at Kew Gardens.

Watch out for flickering flames in a fiendish fire garden, daring fire artists and grinning pumpkins aglow. Wind your way through the illuminated haunted woods filled with creepy neon cobwebs, ghastly ghouls, wicked witches, larger-than life spiders and beastly bats.

Sweet treats will be on offer, including hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

19 October – 3 November 2024

Visit the London Zoo for a fun family adventure this Halloween this October half term. Halloween-themed activities include spooky animal talks, crafting a menacing mask and an extinct species graveyard.

Enjoy a ghoulishly good day out at Eltham Palace and Gardens this half term. Follow the trail to solve creepy clues and gather round to listen to spooky stories.

Halloween Family Fun – High Street Kensington

25 October – 31 October 2024

High Street Kensington have a packed line-up of family activities and events over October half-term! From 25 October, there will be a giant inflatable looming over the tube station and a free ‘win-a-treat’ Halloween hunt through the streets.

On 27 October, explore the family-inspired Farmers’ Market filled with autumnal food and take part in crafts, pumpkin decorating and face painting from 11am to 2pm.

And stop by on 31 October, Hallow’s Eve itself, for a free extravaganza of spooky street theatre with entertainers and trick-or-treating, from 5pm to 7pm.

Combine with nearby must-sees, such as “The World of Tim Burton” exhibition opening at the Design Museum on 25 October or artist Yayoi Kusama’s striking yellow and black polka dot “Pumpkin” installation by the Round Pond at Kensingston Gardens until 3 November.

Pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama – Kensington Gardens

Pumpkin (2024) is a sculpture by artist Yayoi Kusama currently installed near the Round Pound in Kensington Gardens. Kusama is known for her immersive installations, large-scale sculptures and intricate paintings, and she often features kabocha, or pumpkin, in her work.

Chelsea Physic Garden – Halloween Activities for Kids

27 -31 October 2024

Over the October half term, Chelsea Physic Garden will be running several great Halloween activities for kids. Listen to spooky tales at the Enchanted Cottage, take part in Halloween crafts and paint or carve your own pumpkin or enjoy a fun costume party and mask making afternoon. Halloween workshop tickets range from £10 to £15 per child and £15 to £20 per adult.

Stories from the Enchanted Cottage (27-31 October): Wander through the Magic Forest to the cosy Enchanted Cottage, where Magical Storyteller Emily will tell fun, spooky tales.

Paint a Pumpkin (28, 30 October): Paint your very own pumpkin and enjoy a spooky tour of Chelsea Physic Garden.

Pumpkin Carving (28, 30 October): Participants will learn about pumpkin plants and explore the Garden through autumn. All materials and tools will be provided, and each participant will take home their own jack-0-lantern creation.

Make Your Own Broomstick (29 October): Craft your own broomstick using plant materials foraged at the Chelsea Physic Garden. Each participant will leave with a unique broomstick which will complement your costumes, home, or garden for the upcoming holiday season.

Cookie Decorating (29 October): Join in on a fun Halloween cookie decorating session and explore autumnal colours and creatures. Enjoy a wander through the autumn garden after the workshop.

Potions and Bubbles (31 October): Enjoy a Halloween potion making session and brew a special bubbling bath soap. All tools and materials are provided, and each participant will take home their own personal potion mixture.

Costume Party and Mask Making (31 October): Get ready for a spooktacular Halloween adventure at Chelsea Physic Garden London! Take part in a fun costume party and leaf mask making session.

Hyde Park Learning Centre – Hair-Raising Halloween

29 – 31 October 2024

Celebrate Halloween with the little ones at a free drop-in Halloween-themed Discovery Day at the Hyde Park Learning Centre. Take part in a host of free creepy crawly activities including guessing the gruesome contents of “feely boxes”, exploring an eerie nature trail and learning about the bats in the Royal Parks.

Drop in to this free event between 11am and 3:30pm. Dressing up is encouraged and everyone is welcome – their grounds are fully accessible. The Hyde Park Learning Centre do ask for no more than 3 children per adult. Only assistance dogs are allowed.

Priory Farm – Halloween Trail at Discovery Land

4 October – 3 November 2024, selected dates

Priory Farm will also have a Halloween Trail with spooky surprises along a nature trail in their Discovery Land. Venture along a spooky, Halloween themed walk through ancient woodland and meadows and around their fishing lakes.

Priory Farm grow over 10,000 pumpkins every year and there will be range of shapes and sizes for picking in their fields. Take a tractor ride to their fields to pick your own pumpkin on selected dates in October.

The 2024 Halloween Pumpkin Patch at Cammas Hall Farm is open from 5 to 31 October. Tickets include entrance to the expansive Cammas Hall Farm pumpkin patch, interaction with enchanting Halloween characters and a Wicked Walkway with haunting props and surprises. Children under 2 years old are free and do not need a ticket.

Paradise Wildlife Park – Dinos After Dark

25 – 27 October and 1 – 3 November 2024

The popular Dinos After Dark will be running on the evenings over two weekends from 5:30pm to 8:30pm each night. Take a magical trip around the World of Dinosaurs and see the dinosaurs come to life by moonlight.

The event is separate to a day ticket entry and does not include access to the animal park. Visitors can enjoy a variety of entertainment, including UV Halloween drummers, a magical UV Puppet Show, inflatable dinos and Dino meet and greets.

Blenheim Palace will have a Spooky Illuminated Trail this October half term. The trail will take you through an illuminated haunted woods filled with neon cobwebs, ghastly ghouls, wicked witches, jack-o-lanterns, larger-than life spiders and beasty bats.

Watch for a fiendish fire garden, daring fire artists and jack-o-lanterns along the way to the Secret Garden filled with more hidden surprises. Halloween Trail tickets cost from £20 per adult and £15 per child (ages 3 – 16).

Bocketts Farm Park – Witches and Wizards Week

26 October – 3 November 2024

Activities during the Witches and Wizards Week at Bocketts Farm Park include a Reptile Roadshow, Science and Slime Shows, a spooky scavenger hunt, Meet and Green with owls and birds of prey and a Creepy Craft Corner.

There will be hundreds of pumpkins to choose from that were grown at Bocketts Farm and an opportunity to take family photos in their Pumpkin Village.

Many of the party shops around London sell a variety of Halloween decorations and accessories. Non-Stop Party Shop in Kensington has the best selection of Halloween decorations I’ve seen, including animated and light up props, giant jumping spiders and hanging decorations. Trick or treating is one of our favourite Halloween activities and our experiences have varied over the years living in London. Trick or treat is always on 31 October, even if it falls on a weekday.

Trick-or-treating in London typically starts after sunset, around 5pm/6pm depending on neighbourhood and the houses taking part are decorated with at least a pumpkin. St John’s Wood, Kensington, Chelsea and Chiswick are London neighbourhoods popular for trick-of-treating.
